Open Mic and Buskers' Nights


Keeping live music live, and encouraging a canny night out with or without the beers, Simma puts on a few nights a week where you can just chill with some great local musicians, or indeed perform yourself.

Mondays:  the acoustic session at the Dun Cow in Sunderland, next to the Empire on High Street West. All welcome, and 8.30 onwards in a fine pub with an excellent selection of ales.


 Wednesdays: at Bar 28, the new acoustic night at this award winning venue. Open mic slots are usually available. Contact Simma.singer@gmail.com if you'd like to play.

 Thursdays : watch out for news of a monthly open mic night in Gateshead at the Staiths Cafe bar..admire the wooden staiths and the wading birds and listen to some great music. Sounds good to me. First date 7th May. They do yummy food too.

 Saturday : An evening of music in the sublime surroundings of  Nancy's Bordello.

 Sunday Afternoon at the Central, Gateshead, at the end of the Tyne Bridge. 3pm start, 7pm finish. Lots of time to try out your new material and also excellent Sunday dinners and world beers.

It's just a crack in the screen...... Not my usual kind of blog post. The smartphone has become part of everyday life. For a business like mine it had opened up new avenues to spread the word about my clients as a PR. I found some of these shut suddenly when my phone hurtled to the kitchen floor. Just a cracked screen. I worried the phone may cost a fortune to fix, but got similar quotes from about 3 people and so when one of them called back promising a 48 hr turnaraound, and 6 months warranty, I thought, I could trust the friendly voice of "John" at the other end of the line. The UPS driver arrived within 10 minutes and my phone was in a padded envelope off to Elite Phones And Computers in Manchester. This was a mistake. I hadn't checked the reviews online, something I always do, and warn other when I find the bad ones.  I sent the phone on Friday and on Monday checked on progress, using the on-site messaging service the company prefers to use instead of ema
